Original fileThe booklet one gets at the museum explains the "painting" is originally not one piece, but a set of twelve painted wooden plates, that have been worked so they fit in one frame. Each depicts a pedestrian scene, with a humoristic, moralising proverb or one-liner. I do not translate the Dutch text, some of which I do not even understand.
