Immaculate Conception: Mary and Saints

The bearded Saint Peter, draped in a red cloak over a dark tunic, stands beside the Dominican Bishop Antoninus of Florence. Piero di Cosimo was a prominent figure in the Florentine Renaissance whose work often reflected the intellectual and spiritual tensions between traditional hagiography and the Neoplatonic interests of the Medici circle. Saint Antoninus was a key 15th-century theologian whose writings on natural law and the cosmos shaped the intellectual environment of Florence before the rise of the Platonic Academy.
