Bord met Jezus’ gevangenneming

This blue-and-white ceramic plate depicts the chaotic moment of Jesus’s capture. In the center, Judas identifies Jesus with a kiss while a crowd of armed soldiers with torches closes in. In the foreground, Saint Peter is shown kneeling over Malchus, the servant of the High Priest, having just severed his ear with a sword.

This scene is part of a series based on the engravings of Hendrick Goltzius, a central figure in the Haarlem Mannerist circle who was deeply engaged with the intellectual and alchemical currents of his time.
