Translation

Here the great nuptials of the Antenorean Senate,
And the patrician assemblies, and the Venetian marriages, one beholds:
Then the adornments of the matrons, and their proud habits,
And garments squalid with gold, and shining with gems:
And the celebrated rites of the bridal chamber and nuptial torches,
And the solemn processions of the city, and the renowned triumphs:
Which were not seen before, and to many lands unknown,
Are now spread abroad to be viewed by the whole world.

GOD.
God is Lord and yet is poorly followed,
God pays for all and yet is poorly served,
God is living in His glory and yet lies low in death,
God opens the door where man closes the gate,
God is naught but love and yet is not at all loved,
God is all-good and is not at all esteemed,
God is naught but peace, yet we nourish war,
God is in heaven, we love naught but the earth.

Epigram OF MARTIAL.
Teaching what is required to have contentment
and to be at one's ease and happy in the world after the grace
of God, without which one is nothing.
Inherited wealth, not goods acquired with pain,
A fire at all times, a house pleasant and sound,
Never a lawsuit, limbs well-disposed:
And within, a spirit at rest.
Wise simplicity, friends equal to oneself.
An ordinary table, and without great preparations.
To live easily with all people.
Night without any care, yet not being drunk,
Contrary to no one, having no contraries,
To involve oneself little in public affairs.
A joyful wife, and chaste nonetheless,
Who makes sleep, so that the night lasts less,
Not wishing to reach higher than one is,
Neither desiring death, nor fearing it.
