Four circular tondi on the ceiling depict the Holy Trinity and Christ in Glory, surrounded by a complex arrangement of angels and apostles. Below the vaults, the narrative wall frescoes show the Battle of Ostia and the Fire in the Borgo, including the famous scene of a young man carrying his elderly father from a burning building. The composition is unified by ornate grotesque patterns and architectural borders that frame the transition from the celestial ceiling to the historical wall scenes.

This room represents the Renaissance synthesis of divine providence and historical narrative, where the Neoplatonic hierarchy of the ceiling (the divine) governs the temporal events shown on the walls.
