Dante Alighieri is a foundational figure for the Western esoteric tradition; his 'Divine Comedy' provided a systematic, allegorical cosmology that influenced Renaissance Neoplatonists like Marsilio Ficino. The text serves as a primary map for the soul's descent into the material world and its subsequent ascent through the planetary spheres toward the divine.
