The infant Jesus is held by the elderly Simeon over a central stone altar, while the Virgin Mary reaches out toward the child. They are situated within a vast, airy temple interior defined by monumental Corinthian columns and a series of receding arches. Groups of onlookers in contemporary Renaissance attire stand in the wings of the composition, observing the ritual within the deep architectural space.

This work reflects the Renaissance application of mathematical perspective and classical architecture to sacred subjects, embodying the belief that geometric order mirrors divine harmony. Such visual structure was central to the Neoplatonic and humanist project of reconciling physical space with spiritual truth through proportion and reason.
