This work represents the culmination of the 'Raphael Bible,' where Christian narrative is embedded within a classical decorative framework inspired by the discovery of Nero's Domus Aurea. It reflects the Neoplatonic goal of the Papal court to harmonize the aesthetics of the pagan past with the theology of the Christian present.
