A golden monstrance containing the Host sits upon a central altar, serving as the focal point that links the divine and human spheres. Biblical figures, popes, and philosophers fill the semi-circular space, creating a visual representation of the Church's continuity across time.

As the theological counterpart to 'The School of Athens,' this work embodies the Renaissance Neoplatonic effort to reconcile revealed religious truth with rational philosophical inquiry. The hierarchical arrangement reflects the 'Great Chain of Being' and the cosmological structures discussed by Marsilio Ficino and other thinkers of the Florentine Academy.
