The scene is set within a vast Roman-style hall decorated with statues of the gods Apollo and Athena.

The work represents the intellectual harmony between Platonic idealism and Aristotelian empiricism, a core tenet of Renaissance Neoplatonism. It visualizes the 'prisca theologia'—the idea that ancient philosophy was a divinely inspired precursor to Christian revelation.
