Roundel with the Temptation of Saint Anthony

This circular stained glass roundel depicts Saint Anthony the Great as an elderly, bearded man wearing a dark cap and cloak, clutching a tau-shaped staff in his left hand. He is surrounded by grotesque, chimerical demons: one with horns and wings lunges from above, another with a large, bulbous head sits to his right, and a avian-reptilian hybrid creature grips his robes at the bottom. In the lower left, a kneeling male donor with a prayerful expression wears a fur-lined tunic. A small heraldic shield displaying a rooster is positioned at the base of the composition.

The imagery reflects the late medieval and early modern fascination with the 'Temptation of Saint Anthony', a theme rooted in Athanasius of Alexandria's 'Life of Saint Anthony' which details the anchorite's desert struggles against demonic phantasms.
