The scene is framed within an elaborate oval border of Mannerist strapwork, featuring putti, hanging lamps, and baskets of bread. A small vignette at the bottom depicts the betrayal, showing Judas clutching a money bag while conversing with high priests.

This print represents the sophisticated Mannerist visual culture that moved from Antwerp to the court of Rudolf II in Prague, a major center for late Renaissance hermetic and esoteric thought. While the subject is orthodox, the Sadeler family of engravers were instrumental in disseminating the complex allegorical and philosophical imagery favored by the Rudolfine circle.
