Therefore, let it be taken as true that sense meaning: sensory perception is not only the fountain of knowledge but also of certainty in natural things. However, the understanding is the organ original: Organ; meaning: the instrument or tool not only of knowledge but also of certainty in revealed things.

Let us come then to the purpose.
Some deny that Holy Scripture is to be drawn into philosophy, because it does not teach the investigation of outward things, but rather the way to eternal life.

I confess that the Scripture was given by inspiration of God, "to teach, reprove, correct, and instruct in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

I confess, I say, that this is the ultimate end meaning: the final or primary purpose of the Scripture. Yet who does not know that there are, for the most part, multiple purposes for a single thing? This is true even in human affairs, and much more so in divine matters, where the wisdom of our adored God has wholly wound itself up with a skillful design original: "artifice"...
