in the intellect all things are intellect, in the soul all things are soul, and in the body all things are body. This means nothing other than that the Mind embraces all things either divinely, intellectually, soulfully original: "animaliter" — relating to the anima or soul, or corporeally. Divinely, indeed, insofar as a thing is truth; intellectually, that is, as the thing is not the truth itself, but truly reflects it; soulfully, that is, as the thing is a likeness of truth; and finally corporeally, that is, as it leaves that likeness behind and enters into confusion.

The prerogative of the First Unity.

The First Unity is like the model [exemplar] of all things, preceding all multitude and, consequently, all otherness, opposition, inequality, and division. Although this kind of unity is neither the number two, nor three, nor four, it is nevertheless everything that the numbers two, three, and four consist of. If the species of things were distinguished like numbers, this absolute unity would be of no specific species, no name, and no shape, but would be "all in all." For this unity is the measure of every multitude of genera, species, substances, accidents, and all creatures—the one measure of all measures, the one equality of all equal and unequal things, and the connection of all things joined or separated. Just as unity enfolds, unfolds, and connects every number, whether even or odd, through its own simplicity, so too is this an infinite power: an ineffable unity. If you were to separate everything else from it—if you understood that nothing else has ever been, is, or could be; if you cast away all multitude and entered only into this most simple unity, such that you proved it to be not more "simple" than "non-simple," nor more "one" than "not-one"—then you would know that you have penetrated all secrets. For you will see its life is entirely incorruptible in its absolute unity, in which all things exist. The certainty of this absolute unity is so precise that the mind acts for and through it in all things. No question can exist that does not presuppose it, for it is the being of all beings original: "entitas omnium entium", the essence of all essences original: "quidditas omnium quidditatum" — 'quiddity' refers to the 'what-ness' or defining nature of a thing, the cause of all causes, and the end of all things. We have seen the miracles of the Omnipotent Unity; now let us proceed to the other unities.

The power and nature of the Second Decadic Unity.

The second decadic original: "decadica" — relating to the number ten unity regards Angelic intelligence. Since it is the first to recede from that infinite unity, it is necessarily forced to enter into a mixture of intellectual composition. This composition is formed from "one and another"—that is, from opposites—which do not precede the unity but arise simultaneously with it. In its radical simplicity, these opposites are joined indivisibly and irresolubly. For the decadic unity is "without a root," as no unity precedes it except the first, and it does not arise from the multiplication of any other number, since it is the first to emerge. And although it is distant from the first unity by infinite intervals regarding its essence, it is the most simple expression of the divine work, the steward [promus condus] of the divine models. For the Creator Unity, exerting itself into action, first produced the dyad the number two, which is the decadic monad or the Intellectual World, the absolute image of God and the immediate model; it is the ultimate completion of the number ten, which it represents.

The power and nature of the Third Centenary Unity.

The third centenary original: "centenaria" — relating to the number one hundred unity of the soul is the number of intelligence, which it unfolds squarely Kircher is using mathematical symbolism: 10 squared is 100.
