As we labor (no longer in secret imaginations alone, but in the open) for the honor of the Great God, the common benefit of the human race, and as a prelude to the future life, upon the structure of the TEMPLE OF WISDOM, it is fitting to imitate the skill of wise Architects. These craftsmen are accustomed to never begin the construction of any major work without a previous Outline original: "Delineatione," referring to a preliminary architectural sketch or plan of the future work. This practice, besides the delight it provides (for our mind, being carried toward the future by its own nature, is charmed by the foresight of a coming thing), has a remarkable use in preventing the loss of expenses, time, and reputation. Indeed, once a model or idea original: "simulacro, aut ideâ" of the future work has been erected, it is easy to see clearly whether the fullness of the Whole, the Symmetry The proportional and harmonious arrangement of parts in a building of the Parts, and the beauty of individual elements are sufficiently consistent.
