[...namely] an exact account original: "enarrationem" of those things which we already know, with an accurate index everywhere of those things which we are ignorant of: whether because knowing them is simply not granted, or because they remain to be investigated. And indeed, all these things are for that purpose, and by that Method original: "Methodo", so that from the first and lowest things, through the middle, to the last and highest, the minds of men—as if by a certain skillful ladder—may be elevated even to Him from whom, through whom, and for whom all things exist A theological reference to God as the source and end of all creation, echoing Romans 11:36..
X. But so that the same book may teach all those things TRULY, and demonstrate them solidly, so that it clearly appears they are not the mockery of illusions original: "phantasmatum," referring to deceptive mental images or figments of the imagination, but the immovable foundations of the things themselves: and so that we may know that we know, and not merely hold an opinion. Therefore, this Book will contain nothing that would either offend the mind's agreement original: "assensum," the intellectual act of accepting something as true—as things that are openly false, vain, unproven, or improbable do—or merely tickle and invite agreement—as likely or "plausible" things do—but rather it shall compel it. This is the power inherent in the invincible and always victorious Truth original: "Veritati", provided it is skillfully brought into the light.
