A full-page engraving shows Ferdinand III, Holy Roman Emperor. The Emperor is shown in a half-length portrait, turned slightly to his left but looking directly at the viewer. He wears a laurel wreath and has a prominent mustache and soul patch. His clothing consists of ornate ceremonial robes with a heavily embroidered collar featuring cross motifs. In his right hand, he holds a long, ornate scepter. His left hand rests on a globus cruciger, an orb topped with a cross, placed on a draped table. To the right of the orb, an imperial crown is visible. The setting includes a patterned textile canopy above and a leaded, diamond-paned window to the right. The engraving is signed by the artist on the lower left and the engraver on the lower right.
original: "Majestas si diva daret sub imagine formam, Non nisi FERNANDI Cæsaris illa foret." This Latin couplet suggests that the Emperor's physical appearance is the perfect earthly representation of the abstract concept of Greatness or Majesty.
Giacomo Bichi drew this.
