Poa aquatica Schrad.
A botanical woodcut of a tall aquatic grass, now often classified as Glyceria maxima. On the left, a detailed panicle or seed head is shown attached to a stem with a long, narrow leaf. To the right of that, a separate illustration shows the base of the plant with fibrous roots, a thick jointed stem, and a leaf blade bending downward. The engraving uses fine hatching for shading.
Phalaris arundinacea picta
A botanical woodcut of a striped or furrowed grass, commonly known as Ribbon Grass. The illustration shows a cluster of leaves emerging from a rooted base on the left, and a flowering stalk on the right. The stalk features distinct nodes and a dense, spiked panicle. The leaves are depicted with longitudinal lines to suggest the striated nature mentioned in the title.
