Ptolemy (c. 100–170 AD) was the author of the Tetrabiblos, the foundational text of Western astrology; Hermes refers to Hermes Trismegistus, the legendary Hellenistic figure to whom many foundational esoteric texts were attributed.

Almansor likely refers to Yahya ibn Abi Mansur (died c. 830), a prominent astronomer in the court of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma'mun. Gerolamo Cardano (1501–1576) was a famous Italian polymath, physician, and astrologer.
