Sanctos All Saints' Bay, which is the residence of the Archbishop Governor and the most prominent captains there in Brazil. And after diligent deliberation and good ordering, they all bound themselves powerfully together, honorably and uprightly, to stand by one another in the service of their superiors. They then proceeded further sub Linia aequinoctiali under the Equator to 14 degrees south, where on the 4th of May they saw the high land of Brazil before them. They also remained and waited several miles down from the aforementioned harbor so that, according to the common weather, they should get a southeast wind at the shore. However, due to light and varying winds, all of this stretched out until the 8th of May, until they arrived before the entrance of the harbor. So that they might not be easily recognized, they cast their anchors in the evening about 3 miles from the land. They also made everything ready for their plan according to the established order. It was also found good that the entire naval armada should initially enter with the 4 large ships, and they would let the Admiral sail into the harbor with the remaining ships, so that they could give the enemy enough to do at all corners and better prevent the movement and resistance of his ships. To bring our soldiers to land, which was to happen below the castle, 7 dispatch boats were assigned. But so that the enemy would be made even more confused, these boats were ordered to remain with the other ships until the Admiral had a small flag hoisted from the mast of the galleon. Whereupon they should then proceed in haste following the 4 ships, together with the dispatch boats in which the soldiers were, so that they could better support one another on land, as mentioned above. However, for a better understanding, the situation of this place is of such a nature that this harbor, which is called todolos sanctos All Saints' Bay, lies sub elevatione poli under the elevation of the pole at 13 degrees.
