A New Light of Alchemy

ON MERCURY.

...has purified, where the earth is fine, pure, and moist; it fills its pores and joins with it, and thus becomes the Sun Gold; alchemists used the names of planets to represent metals.. But if that fatness fatness: (Latin: pinguedo) refers to the oily, combustible principle of sulfur that provides the "body" of a metal. comes to impure, cold places, it becomes Saturn Lead; if, however, such earth is pure and mixed with sulfur, it becomes Venus Copper, and so on.

For the more a location is purified, the more beautiful the metals it returns. We must understand that this vapor continually moves out from the center to the surface; in its passing, it purifies those places. This is why today minerals are found in places where a thousand years ago there were none; for in its progress, it always refines the crude and impure, gradually drawing a little of it along with itself.

And this is the repetition and circulation of Nature original: circulatio Naturae. This describes the ecological and geological cycle where matter is constantly refined through heat and movement.. It is sublimated for so long, producing new things, until the location is perfectly purified—and the more it is purified, the more noble are the things it produces.

In winter, however, when the cold air constricts the earth, that oily vapor original: unctuosus vapor is also congealed. Later, when spring returns, it is mixed with earth and water and becomes Magnesia Magnesia: In alchemical literature, this is not the modern chemical, but a "mother-earth" substance or a "magnet" capable of drawing down celestial influences., drawing to itself the Mercury of the air original: Mercurium aëris which is similar to it.
