No, no; it is my shepherds who must search out the dream;
Then you will find it true, as I explained it then.
So now write another of your dreams and visions;
It was about the moons; you must give it to men."
If I remember correctly, it was the same Christmas that I dreamed I was in bed, out in a remarkably large open field. I thought I saw one moon over my head, shining very bright, and another very large one at the end of a field, with a man's head in it, like a Turk's head. I cannot recall how it was explained at the time, but I then thought it was wondrous. I shall write the words as they are answered to me now.
"Then now I will answer.—In wonders appear
Two moons, shining so bright in the air.
You say that in one the Turk's head appeared;
The field is the world in which you were placed;
The head of the man appeared in the moon;
And the wisdom of Satan will shine clearly in some;
And now some will shine so brightly in his wisdom,
And give light to the world that walks in him.
I told you the sun was an emblem of me,
To give light to the world, so that you may see clearly;
But just as the moon shines in the night,
The moon is a light for the darkness.
And now by men's conduct you will surely know,
Whether men's wisdom flows from the sun or the moon;
For those who gather their light from the sun,
Will surely see clearly from where it comes;
But those who gather their light from the moon,
Can only shine their wisdom in darkness;
Because the moon cannot enlighten the day.
You men of learning, mark well what I say:
For you will find this vision is deep for everyone;
The sun must be risen to judge your calling;
Because many will shine in the darkness,
And contend that these writings were never divine;
The wisdom of Satan will appear in man,
And point out such light as to deny it all here;
And so by man's conduct you will see the truth,
How true were the words I then answered to you,
Which I have now concealed from your memory;
But all must be revealed to my shepherds;
For then they will gather their light from the sun;
When the seals are broken, the daylight will come.
