In the 17th century, "curious" often meant "rare," "detailed," or "noteworthy," while "good people" (gens de bien) referred to the pious or socially upright. Jean de Labadie (1610–1674) was a famous French mystic and former Jesuit who became a Protestant and founded the "Labadist" movement.
