original: "Ex Bibliotheca majori Coll. Rom. Societ. Jesu." The Society of Jesus refers to the Jesuits, a Catholic religious order known for its educational and missionary work. The Roman College, or Collegio Romano, was their flagship institution in Rome, founded by Ignatius of Loyola in 1551.
