This image displays the closed fore-edge (the edge of the pages opposite the spine) of the book. It contains no historical manuscript text for transcription.
This is a side-profile view of a closed historical book. It shows the long edge of the text block. The paper edges have yellowed with age. They are decorated with a dense red or pink speckled marbling effect. This technique, known as sprinkled edges, was used to decorate the book and protect the paper from visible staining. The edges of the leather binding and the decorative headbands near the spine are also visible.
