The First Climate A "climate" in ancient geography was a latitudinal zone where the longest day of the year had a specific length. The first climate was typically centered near the equator.

The third parallel differs from the equator by 2/4 hours 30 minutes, having a maximum day length of 12 2/4 hours.
The second parallel differs from the equator by 1/2 hour, and has a maximum day length of 12 and a half hours.
The first parallel differs from the equator by 1/4 hour, having a maximum day length of 12 1/4 hours.
The equator original: equinoctialis, the line where day and night are always equal has a day of 12 hours continually and always.
The first parallel toward the south original: versus austrum differs from the equator by 1/4 hour, having a maximum day length of 12 with a quarter.
