From the ancient gem of Ariston Ariston is another name associated with the cicada legend in classical epigrams..
An engraving within a central oval depicts a butterfly or cicada resting upon the crossbar of a classical lyre. This is an emblematic representation of the legend of Eunomus (or Ariston), where a cicada replaced a broken string on his lyre during a competition, allowing him to win.
