This page features a decorative marbled paper (paper decorated with floating pigments to resemble stone) pattern. These designs were commonly used as endpapers (the sheets pasted to the inside of the book covers) in historical bookbinding. The design consists of organic, swirling shapes and spots in shades of salmon pink, olive green, and ochre yellow. These colors are set against a background of dark brown and cream veining. A gilded (gold-leaf) border frames the top, left, and bottom edges of the page. This border features a repeating classical U-shaped or horseshoe-like ornamental motif.
