The Tree of Faith, or The Tree of Life

to me—not for intellectual contemplation original: "Speculation"; here meaning mere observation or theoretical study without practical application. only, but as a motivation original: "Provocation"; an urging or incentive to action. to begin this spiritual work, together with those who shall be joined to me for this purpose. For this cause, a pure, radiant, and drawing eye original: "attractive Eye"; a divine gaze or influence that pulls souls toward a spiritual center. has gone out to gather in those who are destined original: "numbred"; chosen or counted by God. to stand with me, while the Eagle-Spirit Lead uses the "eagle" as a symbol for the soul's ability to soar toward divine light and perceive spiritual truths. is hatching her young upon Faith’s Tree.

§. 9. I find that this tree can grow in no other soil except for ground that is completely purified by oily springs original: "oily Springs"; likely referring to the "anointing" of the Holy Spirit, often associated with oil in biblical imagery. and dews from heaven, which must be what waters it. Then it will spread and flourish abundantly, possessing fruitfulness within itself without depending on anything else. Oh! This is the tree that will bless us with Wisdom, Strength, and Righteousness. For these things, I find myself moved in my heart to seek and pray most earnestly,
