original: "Betrachtung Göttl. Offenb."
would be in itself unrecognizable, and therein would be no joy or upliftment, nor sensitivity, without the "No." The "No" is a counter-throw or "opposition"; original: "Gegenwurf" to the "Yes," or to the Truth, so that the Truth may be manifest and be something in which there is a contrary original: "Contrarium", wherein the eternal Love may be active, sensitive, willing, and have something to love.
3. And yet we cannot say that the "Yes" is severed from the "No," and that they are two things side by side; rather, they are only One Thing, but they divide themselves into two beginnings original: "Principia" and create two centers original: "Centra", where each acts and wills within itself. Just as the day in the night, and the night in the day, are two centers and yet undivided, except that they are divided by will and desire. For they have two kinds of fires within them: (1) the day, the hot and unlocking, and (2) the night, the cold and enclosing; and yet together it is only One fire, and neither would be manifest or active without the other. For the cold is the root of the heat, and the heat is the cause that makes the cold felt. Without these two, which nevertheless stand in constant conflict, all things would be a Nothing, and would stand still without motion.
4. In the same way, it is to be understood regarding the eternal unity of Divine power: if the eternal will did not flow out from itself and lead itself into receptivity original: "Annehmlichkeit", there would be no formation nor distinction, but all powers would be only One power; thus there could also be no understanding. For understanding originates original: "urständet" in the distinction of multiplicity, where one quality sees, tests, and wills the other.
5. Likewise, joy also resides therein: but if a receptivity is to originate, there must be a specific desire for its own self-sensitivity, as a specific will toward receptivity, which is not equal to and does not will the same as the single will. For the single will wills only the single Good, which it is itself; it wills only itself in equality. But the out-flowing will wills inequality, so that it may be distinguished from equality and be its own "Something," so that there may be something for the Eternal Sight to see and feel. And from this specific will arises the "No"; for it leads itself into selfhood original: "Eigenheit", as into a receptivity of itself; it wants to be Something, and does not liken itself to the Unity, for the Unity is
