in such hardness of death, an everlasting painful sensation. Fifthly, it creates within itself an anxious fire-source original: "Feuer-Quall," referring to a boiling or welling up of fire. And in these properties, God’s wrath and the hellish fire are understood: and it is called hell or a hollow original: "Hölle oder Höhle" because it is a hiddenness or an enclosure; it is also called an enmity of God because it is painful, whereas the unity of God is pure gentleness, and they are against one another like fire and water: from which also the substances of fire and water in the creation of this world took their origin.
16. The fifth property in such an ignition of the outflowing will is now the sensitivity of the unity of God, as the love, which becomes mobile and desirous in the fire, and creates in the fire (as in the painfulness) another principle, as a great love-fire. For she the unity/love is the cause and the ground of the light, so that in the fire-essence the light springs forth; she is the power of love in the light, for thus the unity introduces itself into motion and sensitivity, so that the eternal power may be sensitive, and that a willing, desire, and distinctness term: "Schiedlichkeit" (distinctness/differentiation) — the process by which the unified divine essence becomes perceivable through contrast may be therein; otherwise the unity would be an eternal stillness and insensitive.
17. This love and light dwell in the fire and penetrate the fire, so that the fire’s essence is transformed into the highest kingdom of joy, and no more wrath is recognized, but a pure love-taste of divine sensitivity.
18. For thus the eternal unity over-inflames itself, so that it may be a love, and that there may be something that is to be loved. For if the love of the unity did not stand in a fire-burning manner, it would not be actual, and there would be no joy or motion in the unity.
19. Thus one understands now in the fire-essence God’s wrath: and in the sensitivity of love, as in the sensitive unity, the divine love-fire; these make two centers in one ground, as two kinds of fire.
20. (1) The wrath-fire in the outflowing will of the receptivity original: "Annehmlichkeit," here meaning the capacity to receive or take in is a ground of the eternal nature, from which the angels and the soul of man have received their ground, and is called the Great Mystery original: "Mysterium Magnum"; out of which eternal nature this visible world also sprouted and was created, as a reflection original: "Gegenwurf," literally a counter-projection of the inwardness.
