[did they not feel ashamed] to express whatever comes to the mouth original: "buccam... venerit," a common Latin idiom for speaking plainly or saying whatever is on one's mind without rhetorical polishing (as the saying goes) in publishing their thoughts? Therefore, since this style of writing is not going to offend the ears of the pious, and the sentiments expressed will bring no small benefit to everyone; it is only right that I bid you to have high hopes for this little book original: "libello," a diminutive of "liber" (book), often used by authors or editors as a gesture of modesty, and that I consider it a proper service both to myself and to your brother. And so, let this book go forth successfully; let it be received, reread, and loved. In the meantime, fare you well, and continue to love me, as you indeed do.
