Death, which cannot be called life, is like a death in this state, adding to it that wind original: "ventum"; likely referring to the pneuma or vital spirit while sleeping, which is not present when in the fourth month it strengthens those winds with the senses. Those winds will remain in the heart with the soul; therefore, when that wind strengthens over the soul, it will give life to the body. The soul will strengthen over the wind, and the wind will strengthen over our seed while sleeping. Thus, there is a division by change according to whether the wind strengthens over one thing or another, appearing with different effects. All three common [winds] sometimes desert their light, while others do not. The seventh wind remains from the seed until the third month arrives, which is called the "first sound."
Then follows the third and fourth [months], and it is full of blood.
Concerning the third month in which the seventh [wind] is said to be received
The wind goes to our seed, and according to the color of the world, the flesh is born and becomes coagulated in the manner of blood. It gains weight, and the seventh wind hides itself from the vessel the womb like a monk. That wind [departs] from the body, and those vessels which it held remain; it sends a second [force], and they remain in that nest, purifying everything until the fourth month arrives.
Concerning the 4th month
And then it is placed in disposition. All three [winds] prevail according to that strength, and the light in which it changed them will remain. The wind, as a changed thing, prevails in all its strength and will give—it is said—it will give the soul to it. The soul will be fulfilled in it according to the time; the veins will appear in it, and likewise the openings and the form of a human.
In the fifth month it conceives, in which the ninth [wind] is said to be
And then the wind—it is said—at the fourth month, which becomes the form, therefore the shapes of the members appear in it. Their hair is born, and it increases according to the preparation of that month.
Concerning the sixth month of conception, in which the Lord [rules]
And after, it will change in the sixth month, and it is disposed, which is full of sweat and the change of bodies. Now its tongue and its members descend and prevail in the mother with the limbs and feet. It will strengthen the movement and does not want the narrowness of the place; it seeks to go from the darkness of the womb to the world, and it is thus prepared in that nest.
In the seventh month it conceives, in which the third [wind] is said to be
And after the seventh month, the wind—it is said—goes to the third, and the form is completed and strengthened with strength. The members—it is said—are born in that month with the movement of the organs original: "splanchna" (Greek for internal organs), and it will have trust in life and soul, and thus they remain.
Concerning the eighth month in which the seventh [wind] returns
In the eighth, the wind—it is said—goes to the seventh; it will strengthen and block or "oppress" according to the coldness, and it will remain in it through the eighth month to be nourished. If it is born in that eighth month, it is born [weak] and its movement is congealed. The wind—it is said—goes to the seventh, and when it is perceived, it was not willing. To one whom God wished to give mercy, it pleased [God]; but he to whom God wished to give death does not live. It moves, and the birth occurs—it is said—the birth of humans and beasts without pressure, with the mother's members... The text here becomes a complex astrological calculation involving the "house of the sun" (Leo) and the "exaltation of the sun" (Aries).
Concerning the signs by which the movement of the child in the womb is signified
Now the movement of the child in the mother's womb is according to the quantity in which it is shown by the signs. For the born child, they foreknow the members with the Lord [of the sign] and with the exaltation, which is from Leo (the house of the Sun) to Aries (the exaltation). These are the nine signs with this sign, with the month and the world... at the hour of birth. They consider the prelations, the angles, and the Lord of the house, and how the zodiac will be in the water of life. We shall foreknow what will be first and what the stars signify when the seed is cast into the womb. God is in some of the signs of the Sun, illuminating from the hour of the first fall into the womb until the hour of its progress from the mother's womb.
By this change, it exits the womb and is placed from [stage to stage] until it exits to the sign in the place where it was when it began. It is true that they are perceived through the [four] signs: Fire, Air, Earth, and Water. The wind [corresponds] to the nature of the sign in which it is conceived. This is in the fifth month... the members are incarnated by Water, and the spirit of the child is according to the nature of the signs, whether Fire or Water, indicating strength or defect.
