Although the title page bears the date of 1914, the author did not receive the copies of this thesis from Germany, where the booklet was printed, until August 1921, on account of the war This refers to World War I (1914–1918), which caused massive disruptions to international trade and shipping between Germany and the United States.. Distribution was delayed until this year (1922) by a supplement aiming at a solution of the Pythagorean philosophy Pythagorean philosophy: A philosophical and mathematical system based on the teachings of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, who believed that numbers were the ultimate reality of the universe..
