The "Sons of Hermes" is a traditional title for practitioners of alchemy, who viewed themselves as the spiritual heirs of the mythical sage Hermes Trismegistus. "J. L. M. C." refers to the editors, likely the famous astrologer William Lilly and the scholar Meric Casaubon.
