Andreas Libavius (c. 1550–1616) was a German physician and teacher who is often credited with writing the first systematic textbook of chemistry. While he believed in the possibility of transmuting metals, his work focused heavily on clear instructions and the preparation of medicines. Giovanni Battista Coccini is included here as a bibliographic reference in the modern archival record.
