GENESIS.

CHAPTER I.

1. In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
2. And the earth was invisible and unfinished; and darkness was upon the abyss; and the Spirit of God was moving over the water.
3. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
4. And God saw the light, that it was good. And God divided between the light and the darkness.
5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening, and there was morning, one day.
6. And God said, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the water, and let it divide between water and water." And it was so.
7. And God made the firmament; and God divided between the water which was under the firmament, and between the water which was above the firmament.
8. And God called the firmament, Heaven. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning, the second day.
9. And God said, "Let the water under the heaven be gathered together into one congregation, and let the dry land appear." And it was so; and the water under the heaven was gathered into their congregations, and the dry land appeared.
10. And God called the dry land, Earth; and the systems of waters he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11. And God said, "Let the earth bring forth the herb of grass, sowing seed according to its kind and likeness, and the fruit tree yielding fruit, whose seed is in itself, according to its kind upon the earth." And it was so.
12. And the earth brought forth the herb of grass, sowing seed according to its kind and likeness, and the fruit tree yielding fruit, whose seed is in itself, according to its kind upon the earth. And God saw that it was good.
13. And there was evening, and there was morning, the third day.
14. And God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven for illumination upon the earth, to divide between the day and between the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years."
15. And let them be for illumination in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth. And it was so.
16. And God made the two great lights; the great light for the beginnings of the day, and the lesser light for the beginnings of the night, and the stars.
17. And God set them in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth,

11. And God said: Let the earth germinate the herb of pasture, sowing seed according to its kind, and according to likeness; and the fruit-bearing wood making fruit, whose seed may be in itself according to its kind upon the earth. And it was done so.
12. And the earth brought forth the herb of pasture, sowing seed according to its kind, and according to likeness, and the fruit-bearing wood making fruit, whose seed may be in it according to its kind upon the earth. And God saw that it is good.
13. And evening was made, and morning was made, a third day.
14. And God said: Let there be luminaries in the firmament of heaven for illumination upon the earth: that they may discern between day and night: and let them be in signs and in times, and in days and in years.
15. And let them be for illumination in the firmament of heaven that they may shine upon the earth. And it was done so.
16. And God made two great luminaries: the greater luminary for the leadings of the day, and the lesser luminary for the leadings of the night, and the stars.
17. And God placed them in the firmament of heaven, that they might shine upon the earth,
