The most holy, ecumenical, and general Synod of Trent, legitimately assembled in the Holy Spirit, with the same three Legates of the Apostolic See Representing the Pope as presiding officers of the Council. presiding over it, always keeping this goal before its eyes: that, with errors removed, the very purity of the Gospel be preserved in the Church.
Indeed, it [the Synod] has judged that the Index of sacred books should be added to this decree, so that no doubt may arise for anyone as to which books are accepted by the Synod itself.
