...and my festivals 1, and my Sabbaths, and my holy things which I sanctified for myself in their midst; and my tabernacle and my sanctuary which I sanctified for myself in the middle of the earth This refers to the belief that Jerusalem and the Temple were the spiritual center or "navel" of the world, so that I might place my name upon it and so that it the Divine Presence might dwell there.
And they shall make for themselves high places original: "ፋስሕታተ" - often referring to pagan altars or idols in this context and carved images 2, and each of them will bow down to their own error. They will even sacrifice their children to demons and to every work of the error of their hearts.
And I will send witnesses to them to testify against them, but they will not listen; they will even kill my witnesses. Those who seek the law 3, they will persecute, and they will corrupt and reject everything, doing what is evil before my eyes.
Then I will hide my face from them and deliver them into the hands of the nations for captivity, and for the flame, and for devouring. I will lead them away from the middle of the land and scatter them among the nations 4. And they will forget all my law, and all my commandments, and all my judgments; they will go astray regarding the new moon, the Sabbath, the festival, the Jubilee, and the ordinance.
But after this, they will return to me from among the nations with all their heart, and with all their soul, and with all their strength. And I will gather them from among all the nations, and they will seek me so that I may be found by them. When they seek me with all their heart and with all their soul, I will establish 5 for them great peace in righteousness 6.
And I will plant them as a Plant of Uprightness A recurring metaphor in ancient Ethiopic literature for the faithful remnant of Israel with all my heart and with all my soul. They shall be 7 to me for a blessing and not for a curse 8; they shall be the head and not the tail. And I will build my sanctuary in their midst and dwell with them. I will be their God 9 and they shall truly and righteously be my people. I will not forsake them, and I will not be ashamed of them, for I am the Lord their God."
And Moses fell on his face.
