...and you have filled
Jerusalem with your
teaching. And you wish to
bring upon us the blood of this
man." And
Peter and the apostles
answered and said,
"It is necessary to obey
God original: "θῶ", a contraction of "θεῷ" rather than men.
The God of our fathers
raised Jesus, whom
you killed
by hanging him on a tree.
God exalted him as Leader and
Savior at his right hand,
to give repentance to
Israel and forgiveness of sins. And
we are his witnesses
of these words,
as is the Holy Spirit,
whom God gave to those
who obey him." But those
who heard were
cut to the heart, and they planned
to kill them. But
a certain Pharisee in the council
stood up, named
Gamaliel A famous teacher of the law and a member of the Sanhedrin; he was also the teacher of the Apostle Paul., a teacher of the law,
honored by all the people,
and he ordered the apostles
to be put outside for a short while.
And he said to them:
"Men of Israel,
1242
And the high priest Armenian: "քհյնյպտն", a scribal abbreviation (Nomina Sacra) for "p’ahanayapetn."
questioned them and said:
"Did we not strictly
command you once more
not to [teach] in that name? And
now behold, you have filled
Jerusalem with your teaching,
and you wish to bring upon
us the blood of that man."
Peter and the
apostles gave an answer: "To obey
God Armenian: "այ", abbreviation for "Astvats." is more
fitting than [obeying]
men. The God of our fathers
raised Jesus, whom you killed
by hanging him from the wood.
God exalted him as leader and
savior by his right hand,
to give repentance to Israel
and the forgiveness of sins. And
we are witnesses of
these words, and
the Holy Spirit...
...which God gave...
...to those who obey him."
When they heard this,
they were agitated and
considered
killing them. But there arose
one in the midst of the tribunal,
a Pharisee whose name was
Gamaliel, a teacher of the law,
honored by all the people.
And he commanded the
apostles to be taken outside
for a little while.
And he said to them:
"Men of Israel...
take care for yourselves
regarding what you
intend to do to these men.
For before
these days,
Theudas A Jewish rebel leader mentioned by the historian Josephus; his movement failed after his execution. rose up, saying
he was someone [important], to whom
a number of men,
about four hundred,
joined themselves.
He was killed, and all
who obeyed him
were dispersed and came
to nothing. After him
Judas the Galilean rose up
in the days of the
census, and he led
many people away after him.
He also perished, and
all who obeyed
him were scattered.
And now I say to you:
keep away from these men
and let them alone; for
if this plan or
this work is of men, it will be
overthrown; but if it is of God,
you cannot overthrow them—
lest you even be
found to be fighting against God."
And they were persuaded
by him. And having
called in the apostles,
they beat them and
commanded them not
to speak in the name
of Jesus, and they released
them. So they
went away rejoicing from
the presence of the council...
look to yourselves
concerning these men, what
it is right for you to do. For
before these days,
Theudas arose, saying
of himself that he was someone.
To him fell a number of men,
about
four hundred,
who was killed, and all
those who had agreed with
him were destroyed and became
nothing. After him
rose up Judas the Galilean in the
days of the
census Armenian: "աշխարհագրին", referring to the Roman tax registration under Quirinius., and he caused
many people to revolt
after him. And he perished,
and all those who
had agreed with him were scattered.
And now I say to you:
stay away from those men
and let them be. Because
if this counsel
or work is from men,
it will be destroyed. But if it is from God,
you cannot destroy them,
lest you be found
fighters against God astvatsamartk Literally "those who fight God.".
They agreed
with him. And having called
the apostles, they flogged [them],
and commanded them
not to speak any more
in the name of Jesus.
And they released
them. They went
rejoicing from the face
of the tribunal...
