Again, in some cases I would depart from the MS. abbreviation for Manuscript, where a better reading is indicated by Nicephorus Bryennius or Anna Comnena Two significant 12th-century Byzantine historians, who made use of the History of Psellus. Thus I would read, with J. Seger (Byzantine Historians I: Nicephorus Bryennius, 1888, p. 120), p. 258, 29: they give instructions to someone original: ἐντέλλονταί τινι (instead of and original: τε) by means of letters regarding, etc. original: διὰ γραμμάτων ἐπὶ κ.τ.λ. (compare Bryennius p. 55, 1, Bonn edition); p. 259, 7: three years original: ἔτη τρία (not two original: δύο, see Bryennius 55, 12); and perhaps p. 252, 16: joint action original: κοινοπραγίαν (Bryennius 43, 17). It is worth observing that Anna Comnena (Book iii, chapter 8, p. 215) confirms the reading "they withdrew" original: ἀπανέστησαν found in the MS., which M.
