To the left of the following two lines is a Greek cross with letters in its four quadrants: "IC" in the top left, "XC" in the top right, "NI" in the bottom left, and "KA" in the bottom right. This is the "Christogram" or "Nika" cross, signifying "Jesus Christ Conquers." The Greek abbreviations IC XC stand for Iesous Christos (Jesus Christ), and NIKA means "Conquers" or "is Victorious."
The title "Codex Sinaiticus Petropolitanus" refers to the manuscript's origin at St. Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai and its long-term historical repository in the Imperial Library of St. Petersburg, Russia.
