The title "A Brand from the Burning" is a biblical allusion to Zechariah 3:2 ("is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?"). It refers to a person who has been Narrowly rescued by God from sin or destruction. In the context of the 16th and 17th centuries, this title was often used for conversion narratives or accounts of people being saved from "heathenism" or heresy.
