The coat of arms of Victoria University, Toronto. The shield is divided into four quadrants by a central cross. The symbols in the quadrants are: an owl (representing wisdom), an oil lamp (representing enlightenment), an open book (representing scholarship), and a wheat sheaf (representing fertility or the harvest of knowledge). The shield is topped by a royal crown. A ribbon scroll underneath the shield contains the motto "STUDIES PASS INTO CHARACTER" original Latin: "ABEUNT STUDIA IN MORES".
