CUM-FU-CU, or CONFUCIUS, the Foremost Philosopher of the Chinese, born in the Province of XANTUM, in the City of KIO-FEU, in the year 551 before Christ, in the time of LIE-VANG, the 23rd King of the CEU Dynasty. He lived 73 years. He died in the year 479 before Christ, in the time of KING-VANG, the 41st King of the same Dynasty. This man, on account of his singular wisdom and the sanctity of his character, was ever held in the greatest veneration by all the Chinese, and was honored by the Emperors themselves as the Legislator of the Chinese Nation and the Father of Philosophy.
