"...Kula is known by the name of the Lotus..."
This refers to the Unnameable anākhya|The 'nameless' or 'ineffable' fourth state in Krama philosophy that transcends and permeates creation, maintenance, and dissolution form—this is the meaning. What else is it like? He says, "of both of these." "Both" refers to the cycles of Creation and Dissolution original: 'sṛṣṭi-saṃhāra' that are about to be explained. Their Union yāmala|Literally 'twin' or 'couple'; the non-dual state where Shiva and Shakti, or any two opposites, exist in perfect equilibrium is a state of Fusion lolī-bhāva|A mystical state of 'liquefaction' or 'melting together' where the distinction between subject and object, or creation and destruction, is dissolved. Thus:
"The Supreme State shines within the two wheels the 'wheels' of creation and dissolution, having become Fused."
And likewise:
"From the Fusion between emergence and disappearance, the sequence known as Descent original: 'avatāra'; here referring to the movement of consciousness into manifestation occurs."
By this logic, the diverse Manifestation original: 'sarga', whose essence is Maintenance original: 'sthiti' and which possesses a shimmering existence, is composed of that union. The intention is this: it is the supreme, Unnameable venerable Consciousness saṃvit|The foundational, self-aware light of reality who, through her own Absolute Freedom svātantrya|The sovereign power of the Divine to manifest anything without external instruments or causes, makes creation and the rest appear within her own Self and dissolves original: 'vilāyayati' them—this is the point. As it has been said:
"Whose single radiance is eternally risen, destroying the passage of Time; She shines in the void of the sky that blooms within the Heart-Lotus. She, who takes the form of creation, maintenance, and dissolution, delights in their withdrawal."
