A portrait of a nobleman, identified as Charles the Elder of Zierotin (Carl von Zierotin). The subject is shown in a three-quarter view, facing slightly to the right. He has dark, receding hair, a mustache, and a pointed goatee. He is dressed in a dark, richly patterned doublet with a high collar topped by a large, starched lace ruff. Within the frame of the image, on the left side below his shoulder, there is a small inscription. Below the framed portrait, there is a facsimile of a signature or a printed caption in a different script.
