Descartes published his famous philosophical "Method" alongside three scientific treatises (Dioptrics, Meteors, and Geometry) to provide practical demonstrations of how his new way of thinking could solve complex problems.

The printer's mark of Jan Maire. A central oval woodcut depicts a bearded man in a field, wearing a short tunic and boots, working the earth with a spade. Above him, a semi-circular banner with radiant light contains the Hebrew Tetragrammaton The four-letter Hebrew name of God, יהוה (Yahweh or Jehovah)..
