1.7.212 Likely a library shelfmark or cataloging number.
An engraved printer's mark for the Elzevir publishing house. It depicts the Roman goddess Minerva (identified by her helmet, spear, and the owl at her feet) standing next to an olive tree. A ribbon entwined in the branches of the tree bears the motto "DO NOT GO BEYOND THE OLIVE TREES" original: "NE EXTRA OLEAS" - a proverbial expression meaning to stay within bounds or stick to the subject.. To the right of the engraving is a circular black ink library stamp featuring a fleur-de-lis and the words "NATIONAL LIBRARY" around the edge.
