Some corrections have been made in this edition.
The portrait placed at the beginning of the book original: "prefixed" is from a photograph of an oil painting owned by Gräfe and Unzer, booksellers in Königsberg Now Kaliningrad; this city was the center of Prussian academic life and Kant's lifelong home. As a work of art, it is of lower quality than the engraving in the previous edition. However, because it shows Kant in the prime of his life original: "vigour of his age" and—unlike the previous portrait—has never appeared in any other book, readers will likely be pleased with the change. I also own a copy of a rare, full-length silhouette; photographic copies of this can be provided upon request.
